IMAP App Password
How to Generate an IMAP App Password
Some retailers require email verification codes when signing in or completing purchases. An IMAP app password allows our ACO system to access these verification emails when needed.
Your IMAP app password is different from your regular email password. Follow the instructions below for your email provider to generate one.
Gmail (Google)
Step 1: Enable Two-Step Verification
- Visit Google Two-Step Verification.
- Sign in to the Google account associated with your retailer account.
- Follow the instructions to enable 2-Step Verification if it is not already enabled.
Step 2: Generate Your App Password
- Visit Google App Passwords.
- Sign in if prompted.
- Under App name, enter `ACO`.
- Click Create.
- Google will generate a 16-character app password.
- Copy the generated password and enter it into the IMAP password field on your ACO form.
Troubleshooting
- If the App Passwords option is missing, confirm that 2-Step Verification is enabled.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my IMAP password the same as my email password?
No. An IMAP app password is generated separately through your email provider. You should never enter your regular email password in the IMAP app-password field.
Do I need to generate a new IMAP password for every ACO form?
Generally, no. An existing app password can continue working until it is revoked or invalidated. However, different email accounts require their own credentials.
What happens if I lose my app password?
Most providers will not display an app password again after generation. You can typically revoke the old password and generate a replacement.
Can I use Outlook or Hotmail?
Microsoft personal email accounts generally do not support the same traditional app-password IMAP setup used by the providers above. Additional authentication or an alternative supported integration may be required.
Why can't I generate an app password?
Common reasons include:
- Two-factor authentication is not enabled.
- Your email provider restricts app passwords.
- Your account is managed by a school or organization.
- Additional account security restrictions are enabled.
